Rias Baixas

Rectoral do Umia · D.O. Rías Baixas

his Denomination of Origin is the largest producer of wine in Galicia, exceeding 10 million litres, and one of the best positioned internationally.

The vines are planted on granite gazebos, called vine arbours, in order to protect them from moisture and expose a greater surface of the plant to the sunshine.

The Albariño grape, with a small and very sweet grain, is indigenous to Galicia. It is the classic single variety production and the most successful in this Denomination of Origin. Refined, soft, fresh and intense wines, they pair up perfectly with fish, shellfish and seafood , evoking fresh fruit and freshly cut grass on the palate.

Other favourite grape varieties such as white Loureiro, Treixadura or white Caiño are also traditionally grown. Production is generally of white wine, low on alcohol and with no aging.

The geographical area of the Denomination is divided into five zones: Val do Salnés, Condado do Tea, El Rosal, Sotomayor and Ribera del Ulla.
